Of the many nominations, there are a number of quality films that air on Disney+ Hotstar, you know. Here are five Oscar-nominated films for 2022 that you can watch on Disney+ Hotstar.

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Since airing on Disney+ Hotstar in June 2021, Raya and the Last Dragon has become the most-viewed streaming program after Netflix ‘s Lucifer . Even though it was released in theaters, the uniqueness of this film is one of the reasons why audiences watch it again.

Called unique, of course, because of the Southeast Asian culture that inspired it, including Indonesia. The culture shown is very different from other Disney animated films.

The film follows the adventures of the king’s daughter, Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) in search of the last dragon. It is said that the dragon named Sisu (Awkwafina) can restore peace in Kumandra.

Besides being fun, Raya and Sisu’s actions in saving Kumandra were also filled with fresh humor that tickled them. No wonder Raya and the Last Dragon won the Best Animated Feature Film nomination at this year’s Oscar .

Cruella (2021)
The 90s generation must be familiar with dog breeds with black spots on their fur. Called the Dalmatian, this one dog breed became popular thanks to the Disney film 101 Dalmatians (1996).

In the film, there is an antagonist named Cruella de Vil (Glenn Close). Cruella itself tells the origin story of the iconic Disney villain character.

Oscar-winning actress, Emma Stone, lined up to play the figure of young Cruella . Set in London when punk style dominates, this film wows audiences with its gorgeous costumes, makeup and hairdos. Thanks to him , Cruella was nominated for an Oscar 2022 through these two categories.

Luca (2021)
Besides Raya and the Last Dragon , Luca is also one of the strongest candidates for the Best Animation Oscar this year. Luca, in the title itself, refers to a sea monster named Luca Paguro (Jacob Tremblay) who is curious to death with life on land.

One day, Luca meets a free-spirited sea monster named Alberto Scorfano (Jack Dylan Grazer). His meeting with Alberto became the starting point for Luca to taste the bitter sweetness of friendship.

The story of Luca and Alberto is poured through animation techniques that remind us of the Studio Ghibli films. In fact, director Enrico Casarosa himself admitted that Hayao Miyazaki-Sensei’s work was an influence for the making of Luca .

Free Guy (2021)
For game fans , certainly no stranger to the term non-player character (NPC). However, have you ever imagined what if the NPC suddenly had free will? This crazy idea underlies the story of this film directed by Shawn Levy.

Free Guy focuses on Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an NPC character who works as a bank teller everyday . Guy’s monotonous life suddenly changes when he meets a player named Molotov Girl (Jodie Comer).

Who would have thought, his meeting with the player dragged him into an exciting adventure full of action. In addition to displaying a series of popular game references , Free Guy also provides unmatched visual effects. He also won the Best Visual Effects Oscar 2022 nomination .

This Marvel Studios film has become one of Free Guy ‘s toughest rivals in the fight for the Best Visual Effects Oscar 2022. Through stunning visual effects, the studio has succeeded in building a mythical village filled with magical creatures.

This makes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings appear unique compared to other Marvel Studios superhero films. No wonder this film was able to pocket a box office income of 432.2 million US Dollars during its release.

In addition to visual effects , the acting of the players is one of the reasons the audience watches it. This film features a line of talented stars, such as Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, and Michelle Yeoh.
