5 Defending Champions Who May Lose the Title in 2021/2022

Posted under News On By Jaya

Competition in Europe top leagues in 2021/2022 is fierce. Currently, the competition leaves approximately eight matches. The teams that will win the title differ by only a few points, except for Ligue 1.

This condition makes several defending champion teams threatened to lose their domestic titles. Moreover, competitors show a more convincing appearance. Here are five clubs that could potentially lose the title in 2021/2022.

1. Inter Milan

Inter Milan managed to break the dominance of Juventus after winning the 2020/2021 Serie A Scudetto. However, their title is threatened not to last long. Simone Inzaghi men began to scatter in the second half of the season after being firmly at the top of the standings.

They now sit in third place with a difference of four points from AC Milan at the top. Inter Milan chances are quite heavy because they have to face a strong team like AS Roma in the remaining matches.

2. LOSC Lille

LOSC Lille shocked the football world when they won Ligue 1 2020/2021. They beat a rich team, Paris Saint-Germain, in the race for the title. Ironically, this then led to disaster.

Their core players were brought in by other big European clubs, including the coach, Christophe Galtier. One reason is the financial crisis. As a result, this season Lille has experienced a decline in performance. They only sit in 7th place for a while and it is impossible to catch up with the leader of the standings.

3. Sporting Lisbon

Sporting Lisbon won the 2020/2021 Portuguese League title after a title drought of almost 2 decades. Their efforts to defend the title this season is quite difficult. Until the 28th week, Porto still leads with a difference of six points from Sporting Lisbon, which is one level below it.

With six games remaining, Sporting Lisbon opportunities are still wide open. However, Porto performance this season has been very impressive. They are the only team that has not lost in the Portuguese League.

4. Atletico Madrid

In 2020/2021, Atletico Madrid won the La Liga title from Real Madrid. Unfortunately, their title seems to be won again by the city team, Real Madrid. Moreover, Diego Simeone team have been inconsistent throughout this season.

Until week 30, Atletico Madrid only sat in 3rd place and 12 points adrift of Real Madrid at the top of the standings. Chances of defending their title seems very heavy. Their focus at the moment is probably the Champions League. Coincidentally they qualified for the quarter-finals against Manchester City.

5. Manchester City

Manchester City performance this season is actually extraordinary. They have been in charge of the English Premier League for quite some time. However, their position is now threatened by Liverpool. The difference between the two teams is only one point.

Jurgen Klopp men are unbeaten in the Premier League throughout 2022. Interestingly, the two teams will face each other in week 32. Both also have very busy schedules for the rest of the season. The consistency and ingenuity of the two coaches in concocting the squad will be the key to who will become the champion at the end of the season.

The competition for the title in Europe top league this season is getting more and more interesting. Especially at the end of the season. It no longer just the quality of the players that is needed, but also the mentality. Will the five teams above just lose their title?
