Manchester United cannot rely on Nemanja Matic. The age of the midfielder who is not young anymore makes MU have to find a replacement.

Matic came to Old Trafford in the 2017 summer transfer market. At that time, Matic was signed by the Red Devils from Chelsea for 44.7 million euros.

This season, Matic got quite a lot of playing opportunities. The Serbian midfielder has made 18 appearances in all competitions.

Matic is now 33 years old. Therefore, Manchester United must immediately find a replacement figure.

Ralf Rangnick reportedly admires Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham. However, the two will not move in the January transfer window.

Here are five midfielders that Manchester United could sign in the January 2022 transfer market.

Aurelien Tchouameni
Aurelien Tchouameni is a player who graduated from the Bordeaux academy. AS Monaco then signed the French midfielder in the 2020 winter transfer market.

Tchouameni did not take long to become a regular at Moancos. This season the 21-year-old has recorded 28 games and scored 2 goals.

Thanks to his slick appearance with Monaco, Tchouameni had the opportunity to strengthen the French national team. With Les Bleus he has collected 7 caps.

Joao Palhinha
After spending two seasons on loan at Braga, Joao Palhinha returned to Sporting CP. He then managed to become a regular at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Palhinha has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this season. The 26-year-old midfielder has contributed two goals.

Palhinha still has a fairly long contract with Sporting. He is tied to the Portuguese club until 2026.

Ibrahim Sangare
Ibrahim Sangare is a defensive midfielder who plays for PSV Eindhoven. The Ivory Coast player has been at the Eredivisie club since 2020.

Sangare was able to appear regularly in the PSV midfield. The 24-year-old midfielder has become one of the important figures for PSV’s success at the top of the Eredivisie standings this season.

Sangare has played 27 games in all competitions for his club scoring four goals. He is contracted to PSV until 2025.

Renato Tapia
Renato Tapia first played in Europe in 2013. He was at the time for Eredivisie club Twente before moving to Feyenoord in 2019.

Since arriving in Spain in 2020, Tapia has been able to show his best qualities with Celta Vigo. He became a mainstay midfielder coach Eduardo Coudet.

This season, Tapia has appeared in 17 games in all competitions by contributing one assist. Tapia is often dubbed the Casemiro of Peru.

Frank Kessie
Franck Kessie joined AC Milan from Atalanta in July 2017. The midfielder has established himself as a vital player at the San Siro.

The Ivory Coast midfielder’s contract with Milan will expire at the end of this season. So far, negotiations for a contract extension have not gone smoothly.

Kessie has the potential to leave Milan in the January transfer window. The Rossoneri could sell him in the near future if an interesting offer comes along.
