Chelsea underwent the 2017/18 season under the tutelage of Antonio Conte. However, this is also Conte’s last season working at Stamford Bridge.
This season, Chelsea failed to defend the Premier League title. The club nicknamed The Blues was only able to finish in fifth place.
Even so, Chelsea are still able to close the season with the title achievement. Eden Hazard and colleagues won the FA Cup.
In the 2017/2018 season, Conte also brought in a number of new players to Chelsea. Listen below, Bolaneters.
Chelsea signed Willy Caballero from Manchester City. The Argentine goalkeeper was signed for free after his contract at the Etihad Stadium was not renewed.
Caballero was not the first choice in goal after coming to Stamford Bridge. He only became a back-up for Thibaut Courtois and also Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Caballero played for Chelsea until 2020. The former Malaga player recorded 38 matches in all competitions with the Blues.
Antonio Rudiger was recruited by Chelsea from AS Roma. The Blues spent 35 million euros to bring the German national team player to Stamford Bridge.
Until now, Rudiger is still part of Chelsea. He was even one of the important players in the Blues back line in the Thomas Tuchel era.
Rudiger has played 161 games for Chelsea. The 28-year-old has also won four titles including the Europa League and Champions League.
To strengthen their midfield, Chelsea brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko. Unmitigated, Bakayoko was redeemed for 40 million euros from AS Monaco.
In his debut season, Bakayoko appeared quite promising with Chelsea. He collected 43 games and scored three goals and three assists in all competitions.
After Antonio Conte left, Bakayoko was no longer used in the Chelsea first team. Now the French midfielder is on loan at AC Milan.
Alvaro Morata became Chelsea’s most expensive purchase in the 2017/2018 season. The Spanish striker was bought from Real Madrid for a price of 66 million euros.
At Chelsea, Morata was only able to record 24 goals and 6 assists from 72 games. Morata also lasted two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Morata then left for Atletico Madrid. Now the 29-year-old striker is in Juventus’ uniform.
Davide Zappacosta was recruited by Chelsea from Serie A club Torino. Bak right from Italy is hooked at a price of 25 million euros.
Zappacosta was a mainstay of Antonio Conte at Chelsea. He recorded two goals and two assists from 35 games.
After Conte was sacked, Zappaconta was no longer needed at Chelsea. After being loaned out to AS Roma and Genoa, Zappacosta was finally released to Atalanta.
Danny Drinkwater was recruited by Chelsea from Leicester City. The English midfielder was bought at a price of 37.9 million euros.
Unfortunately, Drinkwater failed to become a regular after coming to Stamford Bridge. He only made 23 appearances for the Blues.
Drinkwater is now obsolete at Chelsea. The 31-year-old is currently on loan at Championship club Reading.
Chelsea also brought in new players in the January 2018 transfer market. One of the players brought in by the Blues was Ross Barkley.
Chelsea signed Barkley from Everton. The English midfielder came to Stamford Bridge with a transfer value of 16.8 million euros.
Unfortunately, Barkley’s career at Stamford Bridge was not so successful. The 27-year-old failed to be released by Chelsea in the summer and has played 91 games for the Blues.
EmersonChelsea decided to bring in Emerson Palmieri in January 2018. The Italian defender was brought in from AS Roma for a fee of 20 million euros.
After coming to Stamford Bridge, Emerson was never the first choice at left-back position. He lost to compete with Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell.
Emerson has played 71 games for Chelsea with two goals and five assists. This season, Emerson played with Lyon on loan.
He joined from Arsenal in January 2018 for a transfer fee of 17 million euros.
In Chelsea uniform, Giroud is one of the options in the attacking sector. The French player made 119 appearances and scored 39 goals for the Blues.
However, Giroud’s time with Chelsea ended this summer. He left for AC Milan after helping the club win the Champions League.
