The Napoli camp is quite satisfied with the achievement of a draw when they travel to Barcelona headquarters in the first leg of the playoff to the last 16 of the 2021/2022 Europa League.
Napoli held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the match which took place at the Camp Nou stadium. They appeared more effective even though the hosts played very dominantly.
Luciano Spalletti ‘s side took the lead thanks to a Piotr Zielinski goal in the first half before the Blaugrana equalized through Ferran Torres’ penalty in the second half.
Referring to statistics via the official UEFA website, Napoli are locked up by Barcelona. They only had 35 percent possession and created four chances.
This is far from Barcelona who appear so dominant with 65 percent possession and 21 opportunities.
However, Napoli, who played defensively, especially in the second half, were able to appear more effective. Of the four opportunities that were created, all of them led to the goal where one of them became a goal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is the opposite. Of the total 21 opportunities, only five led to the goal and one was scored by a penalty kick.
“We defended too deep in the second half and we have to improve on that. In the first half we showed that we can play on par with Barcelona,” said Luciano Spalletti, quoted from the official UEFA website, Friday (18/2/2022).
“We can learn from this game, on the path to improve. What we are doing at the moment, we can do in the full 90 minutes,” he added.
Zielinski as Napoli’s goalscorer, felt a 1-1 draw was good enough for his team. He asked his colleagues to be able to perform better in the second leg later.
“It’s a good result, but we need to do better in the second half. The second game will be different, I think,” concluded Zielinski.
