Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the first leg of the 2021-2022 Champions League last 16, came at a cost with Diogo Jota ‘s ankle injury . Manager Juergen Klopp admitted that he was disappointed with the conditions experienced by his players. In this match Klopp was forced to pull out Jota in the 46th minute by being replaced by Roberto Firmino. The bespectacled coach explained that the 25-year-old had a problem during the first interval and prevented him from continuing the match. “I’m happy with everything except Diogo Jota leaving. The ankle was swollen at the break so we had to replace it,” Klopp said.
Furthermore, Klopp said an ankle injury did not bode well for his team. The German coach said he would carry out further checks to ensure Jota gets further treatment. “The ankle is sprained, swollen. So it’s not a good sign but we have to see. We will check it as early as possible tomorrow (Thursday local time) but we need further assessment,” said Klopp.
Of course the injury that befell Jota is not good news for Liverpool. The player has scored 17 goals and provided three assists from 32 appearances in all competitions this season. Moreover, they will face Chelsea in the English League Cup Final on Sunday (27/2/2022).
