Angelo Branduardi was born on February 12, 1950 in Cuggiono, in the province of Milan, and is currently 72 years old. a few months after his birth, however, the Italian singer-songwriter family left the city in the province of the Lombard capital and moved to Genoa. Having become passionate about music following his father’s interest, Branduardi began connecting as a teenager with a local songwriting school, one of the most dynamic realities of the time. His musical training, however, was heavily influenced by international songwriters such as Donovan and Cat Stevens.
At the age of 16, he graduated in violin at the Genoa Conservatory, then dedicated himself to guitar and began to compose his first songs. For his lyrics, he was inspired by his favorite poets including Sergej Esenin and Dante.
The most important meeting in the singer-songwriter’s life was the one that took place with British arranger Paul Buckmaster, with whom he would record his first progressive album Angelo Branduardi.
Between 1975 and 1979, flanked by multi-instrumentalist Maurizio Fabrizio, he began experimenting with sounds that blended distinctive elements of international ethnic music with popular elements or, again, with Renaissance and Baroque harmonies.
In 1976, he composed Alla fiera dell’est, a piece that made his career skyrocket in Italian music scene.
