Chelsea are facing the worst case scenario for Ben Chilwell’s injury case. The English left-back may be out until the end of the season.

Chilwell injured his knee ligament (ACL) when Chelsea beat Juventus 4-0 in the Champions League on 23 November. Initially, Chilwell was projected to only be out for six weeks.

However, Chilwell now needs to go up to the operating table to recover from his injury. Therefore, the 25-year-old player could end this season sooner.

Chilwell’s injury made the stock of Chelsea’s left back running low because there was only Marcos Alonso. That means the Blues have to look for new players in the January transfer market.

Here are five left-backs that Chelsea might be recruiting in the winter transfer market.

Lucas Worthy
Lucas Digne has defended Everton since 2018. However, Digne is now no longer the main choice under Rafael Benitez.

The French national player is rumored to be sold by Everton. For that, Chelsea could be the right solution for the former Barcelona player.

Chelsea’s path to get Digne is quite spacious. However, Newcastle are reportedly also interested in using the services of the 28-year-old player.

Theo Hernandez
Theo Hernandez joined AC Milan in 2019. Theo has performed well at left back and has been a key player for the Rossoneri so far.

As a full-back, Theo often helps the attack and contributes goals. In total, this French player has made 101 appearances with 17 goals and 18 assists.

Theo would be a great addition to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. However, the 24-year-old will cost a lot.

Robin Gosens
Robin Gosens has been outstanding for Atalanta. Acting as a left wing back, the German player was able to look sharp under the tutelage of Gian Piero Gasperini.

So far, Gosens has recorded 157 matches in all competitions with La Dea. The 27-year-old player was able to pack 29 goals and 21 assists from his appearance.

Gosens was even believed to be Germany’s starter for Euro 2020 yesterday. As a result, his action reaped the attention of a number of major European clubs.

Nicolas Tagliafico
Nicolas Tagliafico has played for Ajax Amsterdam since 2018. The 29-year-old was previously a regular in the first team of the Dutch League giants.

However, Tagliafico was sidelined from Erik ten Hag’s squad in the 2021/22 season. He has only played in 9 matches in the Eredivisie.

Tagliafico’s contract with Ajax expires in 2023. Ajax may be willing to release the player in the next winter transfer market.

Marc Cucurella
Marc Cucurella started his career from the Barcelona academy. However, he left the Spanish giants because he did not get a chance to play in the first team.

Cucurella is currently playing in the Premier League. The Spanish defender moved to Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of this season.

So far this season, Cucurella is able to appear regularly at Falmer Stadium. The 23-year-old has played 16 matches in all competitions with one assist.

Sergio Gomez
Sergio Gomez is the mainstay of Anderlecht’s left back. The Spanish defender strengthened the Belgian club from the start of this season.

Gomez showed a very impressive performance with Anderlecht. The 24-year-old left-back is very diligent in scoring goals and assists for his team.

The former Barcelona player has made 28 appearances with 6 goals and 13 assists. The statistics are so slick for Gomez who is a defender.

Sergino Dest
Sergino Dest actually recently joined Barcelona.

Dest was contracted for five years by Barcelona. The United States player then became a regular at Camp Nou.

But right now Dest’s future is unclear. There is news that the player will be sold to help overcome the financial problems experienced by Barcelona.
