Independent films or indie films are always interesting to watch because of the unusual storyline. In contrast to box office films that tend to meet market demand, indie films present stories that are out of the box .

Independent films are also known to be more realistic and often relate to society. Indie films do not have the same effect as box office films . The reason is, films like this have a fairly limited budget.

Even so, many indie films have won many awards. As well as the following five independent Hollywood films that are too dear to pass up. You can watch it on the Netflix streaming platform , you know.

 

Pulp Fiction (1994) : Pulp Fiction is an indie film directed by Quentin Tarantino. This film managed to bring him the Best Original Screenplay award at the Academy Award. Pulp Fiction is one of the 90’s films that are timeless. This film is famous for the iconic characters played by John Travolta and Uma Thurman.

Pulp Fiction presents four interconnected stories. Starting from a story about two assassins, the boss of a criminal gang, and his relationship with his wife. Next, the story of a boxer who is on the run. Until the last is a story about a married couple robber.

Lost In Translation (2003) : Through the film Lost In Translation , Sofia Coppola managed to become the first female director to get an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay . The film, starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, has received many award nominations despite being an independent film.

Lost in Translation tells the story of an actor named Bob Harris who travels to Tokyo to shoot. His declining popularity in America was the reason he went to Japan. He then met a young woman named Charlotte who had just graduated from college. This meeting brings the two of them to a romantic and melancholy relationship.

Rooms (2015) : Prior to becoming Captain Marvel, Brie Larson starred in an indie film directed by Lenny Abrahamson. Film Room is based on a novel by Emma Donoghue same title. This film brought Brie Larson the Oscar for Best Actress in 2016.

Room tells the story of a boy who lives with his mother in a room. The two of them were unable to go anywhere because they were detained by the kidnappers. Eventually, this mother and daughter attempt to escape and gain their freedom in the outside world. Room showcases the incredible acting of Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay.

Wind River (2017) : Wind River is an independent film starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. The two play a tracking expert and an FBI agent who work together to solve the murder of a teenage girl on the Wind River reservation in Wyoming.

Clues after clues lead them to the perpetrators of Natalie’s murder. In the end, the audience was surprised by the plot twist written by Taylor Sheridan. No wonder he became a director and writer with three nominations at the same time at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Rome (2018) : The film Roma was written, directed and produced by Alfonso Cuaron. This indie film set in 1970 has a captivating cinematography even though it uses black and white effects. The film is also based on the director’s personal experience growing up in Mexico. Rome has won various prestigious awards, you know.

Roma tells the story of Cleo who helps raise the children of husband and wife Antonio and Sofia. Trouble occurs when Antonio runs away with his mistress, while Cleo finds herself pregnant. This film manages to show social issues in Mexico which is interesting to watch.
