The host, West Ham United surprisingly beat Chelsea with a score of 3-2 in the 2021/2022 English League continued match on Saturday (04/12/2021) night WIB.

West Ham had fallen behind twice in this match but always managed to equalize and finally won thanks to Arthur Masuaku’s goal late in the second half.

After the match, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said his team’s performance was actually not bad. It’s just that according to him, Thiago Silva and his friends made too many individual mistakes.

“I don’t think we had a bad game, we could even win with this performance,” Tuchel said in an interview with BT Sport.

“It’s difficult to play here, we made too many individual mistakes, we’ve done it against Manchester United and Watford and got punished.

We’ve talked about it before, but obviously it doesn’t help much.”

The course of the match
Despite the status as a guest team, Chelsea appeared dominant from the start of the match. They immediately pressed the host since the referee blew the whistle signaling the start of the match.

But West Ham played with discipline in this match. So Chelsea’s attacks were not optimal in this match.

Chelsea could only open the scoring in the 28th minute. Starting from a Mason Mount corner, Thiago Silva headed the ball that bounced into the West Ham goal. The score changed to 1-0 for the Blues advantage.

West Ham did not remain silent in the position left behind. They tried to put pressure on Chelsea, who at that time dominated possession.

In the 40th minute, West Ham got a fortune. Starting with Jorginho’s backpass, Jarred Bowen chased the ball and pressed Mendy.

When the goalkeeper was about to block the ball, he dropped Bowen in the forbidden box so the referee pointed to the spot. Manuel Lanzini, who was appointed as the executor, did his job well. So the position is 1-1.

Chelsea immediately gave a quick response to the goal. One minute before the end of the first half, the Blues took the lead again after Mason Mount’s volley utilizing Hakim Ziyech’s pass failed to be blocked by Fabianski. The score 2-1 lasted until halftime.

Second round
At half-time both coaches make substitutions. Ben Johnson was withdrawn and replaced by Arthur Masuaku. While Tuchel pulled Kai Havertz and replaced him with Romelu Lukaku.

At the beginning of this second half, the situation was not much different from the first half. Chelsea dominated possession, while West Ham relied on counter-attacks to threaten the Chelsea goal.

Just 10 minutes into the second half, West Ham managed to equalize. Starting from Coufal’s short pass, the ball was received by Jared Bowen who fired a low shot which Mendy failed to block. The position became a draw 2-2.

The goal did not change the game much. Chelsea, who appeared dominant in possession of the ball, found it difficult to penetrate the host’s defense meeting.

Difficult to penetrate the West Ham defense, Tuchel made two substitutions. Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso came off and were replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile at West Ham, David Moyes entered Pablo Fornals to replace the injured Kurt Zouma.

West Ham who increased the intensity of their attacks managed to make a surprise towards the end of the game. Getting a throw-in, Arthur Masuaku who released a cross, the ball instead moved into the Chelsea goal. The score changed to 3-2 for the advantage of the host.

Buying and selling attacks continue to occur. But the score 3-2 closed the game at the London Stadium.

Thanks to this result, Chelsea is still in first place in the EPL standings. But they have the potential to be evicted by Manchester City and Liverpool. Meanwhile, West Ham have strengthened their position in fourth place in the standings.
