‘Uncharted’ hits box office even though the world is getting ready with ‘The Batman’
After many failed adaptations, the film ‘Uncharted’ can finally be enjoyed by viewers and fans of the video game franchise.
Sony Pictuers again gain success after the success of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ This time, the actor managed to topped the box office with his latest film, ‘Uncharted.’
As expected, Sony Pictures’ newest franchise, ‘Uncharted’, is poised to repeat its success. After exceeding expectations with a revenue of 52 million US dollars at its premiere, this time ‘Uncharted’ is expected to make 23 million US dollars in its second weekend. This brings the video game adaptation’s domestic total to more than 80 million US dollars, a fine result for a long overdue project.
The success of ‘Uncharted’ also marks the successive success of star Tom Holland, who has done well in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ For more than a decade, the film ‘Uncharted’ continued to be in various stages of development until filmmakers such as David O. Russell, Seth Gordon, Neil Burger, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and Travis Knight left the project for different reasons- different. Therefore, expectations reduced by 45% from the initial release amount, can still be considered a big win.
All the major studios are holding out this weekend and looking forward to a shift at the box office once Warner Bros’ ‘The Batman’ hits theaters. Meanwhile, the two newest films in theaters, ‘Studio 666’ and ‘Cyrano’ haven’t made much of a fuss from their release.
Open Road Films’ ‘Studio 666’ is estimated to have grossed $2 million from 2,306 theaters to date. Chances are, the film, starring Foo Fighters with a fairly interesting storyline, won’t make much of an impression in its first release in theaters. The ‘Cyrano’ is projected to earn between 1 to 2 million US dollars from 797 theaters. Relying on the name from the Academy Awards, ‘Cyrano’ has little hope of closing its total production budget of 30 million US dollars through a theatrical release.
The top five at the domestic box office looks set to be a repeat of its position last weekend.
‘Dog,’ Channing Tatum’s directorial debut is doing very well after appearing on its release weekend. The film, which MGM produced in partnership with FilmNation Entertainment, earned $2.47 million on the second Friday from an initial expectation of $8.5 million. It also marks a 51% drop from its opening day last week and brings the film’s total domestic revenue to $30 million.
The next position is occupied by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ which has not stopped in the top three for 11 weeks. The Sony release is expected to finish with $5.1 million and increase its North American gross to $779 million as of Sunday. After dominating the box office for about two months, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has now occupied its position as the third highest-grossing domestic film of all time.
The fourth place is occupied by ‘Death on the Nile’ produced by Disney and 20th Century Studios. The film is expected to gross $4.1 million, with a total domestic gross of over $32 million. This is an unsatisfactory amount considering the film’s reported high production of US$90 million.
Paramount Pictures’ ‘Jackass Forever’ will round out the box office top five , hoping to gross $3.9 million for the weekend and take its domestic total to nearly $52 million. That’s not a bad amount for a documentary with a production budget of $10 million.
