MotoGP is indeed undergoing a winter break in 2021. However, the manufacturers are still working on developing the latest bikes, and the participating teams are starting to prepare a solid structure ahead of the 2022 season. Two teams have also announced the launch date of their new squads. .
Since 2019, MotoGP has only fielded 11 teams and 22 riders. However, as is known, the 2022 MotoGP will again be enlivened by 12 teams and 24 riders, the last time this happened in 2018 due to the withdrawal of the Aspar Team the following year.
This addition of participants occurred due to the separation between Aprilia Racing and Gresini Racing, which had been merged since 2015. Now, Aprilia Racing is a full factory team, while Gresini Racing is back to being a full satellite team as well.
Gresini Launches MotoGP, Moto2, and MotoE Squads
During his time as a satellite team, Gresini Racing usually worked closely with Honda. However, now they are making a new history by becoming a satellite Ducati team. The team based in Faenza, Italy, is also the third Ducati satellite team this season.
Gresini Racing will also oversee two Italian riders, namely the 2020 Moto2 world champion, Enea Bastianini, who will be in his second season in MotoGP, and Fabio di Giannantonio, who is a debutant. Uniquely, ‘Bestia’ and ‘Diggia’ have also been a tandem at Gresini Moto3 in 2015 and 2016.
Through Instagram Story, Gresini Racing also announced that the launch of their squad will be held on January 15, 2022. Not only the MotoGP team was launched, but also the Moto2 squad which houses Alessandro Zaccone and Filip Salac, and MotoE which houses Matteo Ferrari and Alessio Finello. RNF Team Will Introduce Dovizioso-Binder
In addition to Gresini Racing, WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team has also set a squad launch date, Corsedimoto reported on Thursday (16/12/2021). The team, formerly known as Petronas Yamaha SRT, will inaugurate their squad in Verona, Italy, on January 24, 2022.
This Yamaha satellite team will field three MotoGP runner-up and 2004 GP125 world champion, Andrea Dovizioso, who is paired with Darryn Binder. Binder is a controversial debutant, as it follows in the footsteps of Jack Miller who jumped straight from Moto3 to MotoGP in 2015.
All MotoGP racers will also take to the track in a pre-season test in Sepang, Malaysia, in February. The shakedown trials for the test riders and debutants will be held on January 31-February 2, and they will be followed by other MotoGP riders on February 5-6.
