Kim Seon Ho and Shin Min Ah in the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha
Not only popular in their home country, the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha has become a conversation abroad. Hometown Cha Cha Cha also ranks second on Netflix as the most popular Korean drama after Squid Game.

Synopsis Hometown Cha Cha Cha
Hometown Cha Cha Cha is a remake of the romantic comedy Mr. Hong, which aired in 2004. Even though it still uses the same character name, the storyline of the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha is different from the film it was adapted for.

Set in the village of Gongjin, Hometown Cha Cha Cha follows the story of dentist Yoon Hye Jin (played by Shin Min Ah) who moves and opens her clinic there. She meets Hong Du Sik (played by Kim Seon Ho), a versatile man who is well-known to the locals.

Unfortunately, none of the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha players received a 2022 Baeksang Award nomination. Neither did the scriptwriter, Shin Ha Eun.

There are also Korean dramas that are included in the Best Picture nominations, namely DP, Twenty Five Twenty One, Squid Game, The Red Sleeve, and Going to the Blue House Like This.

Kim Seon Ho’s Abortion Scandal
In the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Kim Seon Ho portrays a man who harbors trauma from the past and suffers from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Unfortunately, the actor stumbled upon an abortion scandal after the airing of the last episode of the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Her ex-boyfriend accused Kim Seon Ho of forcing her to have an abortion.

The actor also apologized and chose to step down from his position as a permanent member of the television show ‘2 Days & 1 Night’. Advertisements for Kim Seon Ho’s collaboration with a number of brands were removed.

However, Dispatch revealed the contents of the chat chat of Kim Seon Ho and his ex-lover which proved the actor’s innocence. The ad that was removed was re-installed.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha suddenly became a trending topic on Twitter after the 2022 Baeksang Award nominations were announced. A number of fans suspect the Kim Seon Ho scandal was the reason the slice-of-life drama was not included in the nominations.

“How come homcha wasn’t nominated for baeksang at all?” a fan comment.
