Deadline reports that the script for Mortal Kombat will be written by Jeremy Slater. Jeremy Slater is the figure behind the script for the Moon Knight series produced by Marvel Studios, which will soon appear as one of the stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe .

Apart from Moon Knight, Jeremy Slater has previously written the script for the film Uprising, which was directed by Travis Knight. The film, produced by James Wan, is an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Tommyknockers. In addition, he is also the figure behind The Umbrella Academy which is also a Netflix production, as well as the series The Exorcist for FOX as a co-showrunner.

The announcement of Jeremy Slater’s name is also another official notification about the Mortal Kombat sequel. Joe Taslim who plays Sub-Zero welcomed this news with joy through an Instagram upload. His old photo on the set with Chin Han was re-uploaded with the chain logo in the shape of the number 2 and a screenshot from the Deadline article.

Since the success of the first film, fans have been expecting Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema will continue the epic story of bloody battles presented in Mortal Kombat. Joe Taslim previously mentioned the sequel to be made if the first film is considered a success.

The first Mortal Kombat film was directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by Todd Garner, E. Bennet Walsh, and James Wan. Tells the story of an MMA fighter who is on a mission to find the greatest fighter on earth and then bring him face to face with other fighters from Outworld.

Besides Joe Taslim, Mortal Kombat is also played by Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Hiroyuki Sanada, Max Huang, Sisi Stringer, and Mehcad Brooks. It has not been announced the names that will return for the sequel to this film but we can be sure that Joe Taslim will still play Sub-Zero.
