Philippe Coutinho officially left Barcelona and accepted a proposal from Aston Villa. Together with The Villa, Coutinho will reunite with his former teammate, Steven Gerrard, who is now sitting in the manager’s chair.

Aston Villa and Barcelona have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of the Brazilian winger on Friday (7/1/2022). Philippe Coutinho will defend Villa until the end of this season on loan.

Coutinho finally flew to Birmingham on Tuesday (11/1/2022), and was officially introduced to the public as a new Aston Villa player, Wednesday (12/1/2022) early morning WIB.

Together with The Villa, Philippe Coutinho will use the number 23 jersey. Aston Villa announced they have a permanent purchase option, when Coutinho’s loan period will end.

For Philippe Coutinho, this is the second time in his career in the Premier League. Previously, he had uniformed Liverpool from 2013 to 2018.

During that period, Philippe Coutinho managed to gain 54 goals from 201 matches in all competitions. He also experienced shoulder to shoulder with Liverpool captain at the time, Steven Gerrard, who is now manager of Aston Villa.

Happy to join Aston Villa
Coutinho said he was happy to be back in the Premier League and strengthen Aston Villa. The 29-year-old player is also ready to give his best performance with The Villa.

I am very happy to be here and I want to enjoy my football.”

The figure of Steven Gerrard
Furthermore, Philippe Coutinho did not deny choosing Aston Villa because of the presence of Steven Gerrard as manager. Coutinho said Gerrard was one of the footballers he admired.

“I’ve known Stevie for a long time.

“He’s someone I really admire. I hope to do my best here. For sure, I will work hard, and I hope that together we can do a good job.”

Philippe Coutinho’s report card in the Premier League compared to Jack Grealish: It used to be scary, can it be successful at Aston Villa?

The Brazilian reunited with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and returns to the Premier League four years after leaving Anfield for the Nou Camp in a £142m deal.

The 29-year-old player had difficulty developing his career after leaving Liverpool in January 2018. He was thrown from the main composition of Barcelona even though his uniqueness skyrocketed again when he was loaned to Bayern Munich.

While he was on loan at Bayern Munich for the 2019/2020 season, Coutinho successfully lifted the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League trophies in 2020, playing 38 times in all competitions.

Philippe Coutinho , who holds 63 caps for the Brazil national team, joins Aston Villa who currently sit 13th in the Premier League. The presence of Steven Gerrard made the appearance of The Villans improve, but still have to work extra hard to push up at least in the middle board.

Can you be Jack Grealish’s replacement?
Philippe Coutinho was once a superstar at Liverpool to the point of impressing Barcelona scouts that the Spanish giants opted to pay £140m for the Brazilian.

However, Coutinho has been having a nightmare at Barcelona since his move in 2019. His form has dropped drastically. Barcelona then let him go to reduce their wage bill.

Joining Aston Villa on loan gave him the opportunity to reunite with Steven Gerrard, and return to the league where he was most prolific.

“I don’t think you get the nickname magician if you’re not a special footballer,” said Gerrard.

Aston Villa will also find a commensurate replacement for Jack Grealish, who left the club for £100m for Manchester City.

The England international is a product of Aston Villa’s Academy and was a hero at the club prior to his departure for City.
