Previously, I wanted to say that this post is part of a post that I will upload later. I made this post myself because I think this film deserves its own post. It’s too awesome to be put in some random everyday life post. So, yeah, here it is.

When I saw the trailer for the first time, my first impression of this film was like… wow. This is going to be a very good and fun film. It is evident from the storyline that already features one of the AU Spider-Man characters, namely Miles Morales. I’ve never read a comic about him, but what I do know is that Marvel Comics has created various kinds of Spider-Man in a number of alternate universes, one of which I’ve read is Silk and Spider-Gwen. A little spoiler, I want to watch this movie too because there is Spider-Gwen. She made her first movie debut and I think that’s awesome for an underrated character in Spider-Man universes.

So, it seems that I was right. On IG stories, many of my friends say that this film is really good, you can’t skip it. More curious. Long story short, I was “saved” by one of my interns who happened to live in the same city as me. So let’s really impromptu watch this film.

OK, just go ahead.

Synopsis

At first, Miles Morales was just an ordinary teenager who lived in Brooklyn and loved and idolized Spider-Man. His situation changed when he entered a very elite boarding school in his city and he felt he was not a student who could undergo an education at that school. Because of his insufficient grades, his teacher at school gave him a homework assignment, in which Miles was asked to write an essay about what kind of person he wanted to be. Annoyed and frustrated, he goes to his uncle, Aaron’s house, and together they graffiti the corridors of a New York subway. Unexpectedly, he was bitten by a radioactive spider at that time. Long story short, he realized that he had the same power as his idol, Spider-Man. While trying to find the spider that bit him, suddenly he goes underground and realizes that someone is trying to bring multiple dimensions to the world where Miles is. At the same time, Spider-Man is trying to stop the efforts of that person, namely Kingpin. Miles had received a message from Peter Parker to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, Peter Parker was killed. However, after that, something was strange. When Peter Parker in Miles’ world dies, many other Spider-Mans appear mysteriously. In addition, Miles must stop Kingpin’s efforts to restore his family by bringing multiple dimensions to the world where Miles is. Can Miles do it..? Review

Spoiler alert. You have been warned.

One sentence for this film: it makes me say “wow”. It’s so cool, I’m also confused about where to start. However, because in the film the most meaningful thing is the story, so I’ll start from there first.

The story is cool. Starting from the plot, presentation, and also the content, everything is TOP BGT. The plot just flows naturally, the presentation is also VERY OK, because this film seems to want to portray Miles’ soul as a comic fan by presenting Marvel comic-style sequences in each scene. For example, when Miles wants to spy and try not to be seen by the enemy. Above his head pops a balloon (or box) of words that we would normally find in comics, and it follows the path of where Miles is about to run. Or another example, when Miles is alone in one place and suddenly there is a message “LOOK OUT!” just like in the comics before someone hit him from behind. I think this is really cool. As a comic lover, I like the presentation.

Even though there are so many Spider-Man characters from many dimensions that appear in this film, such as Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, Peter Porker, Peter B. Parker, and Spider-Gwen, their stories don’t get confused. In fact, their introduction is the spot on for this film. “Alright, let’s do this one last time.” Surely those of you who have watched this haven’t forgotten the line, right? This line is very iconic. I also love every portrayal of the Spider-Man character and also the Aunt May character which is more badass than usual.

Above all, I love Miles’ character. I think all—or maybe, some teenagers and other young people—can relate to Miles. Sometimes, we feel worthless, afraid, confused about what is in front of us. We are afraid of not being able to live up to the expectations of others . It’s a very human thing. In my opinion, not being able to meet expectations is actually okay, because after all, we are human, we have different traits. It is impossible for everything to be flattened, and the results of our work must be perfect. However, don’t make it a barrier for us to be able to produce the best. In the midst of these limitations, as long as we have the slightest intention, dream, and hope, we can definitely get through it. Got the message, I like this one too.

At the beginning of this film, it can be seen that this Spider-Man, indeed, is a film that is like a kaleidoscope for all kinds of Spider-Man film productions that Sony has ever made. They even featured a scene of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man suddenly dancing randomly from the Spider-Man 3 movie in the cartoon version. In the end too—there are memes. You know that Spider-Man meme from the television series from the ’60s, where two Spider-Mans meet and point at each other? Well, the everyday memes I usually see on Twitter are in this movie, guys. Guaranteed to make you laugh.

Okay enough. The visuals are okay, and another thing that’s okay is the soundtrack. The soundtrack’s fire, man. Y’all gotta check it out. My favorites are Sunflower, What’s Up Danger, and Way Up. You can really try to listen to it.

Oh yeah, even though the visuals are okay, I suggest for those of you who have a problem with seeing intense colors to be careful because in this film, there are so many colors like that that appear. But really, that’s what makes this movie wholesome and good.

Overall, this film is VERY GOOD. It could be that Into the Spider-verse is my favorite film of 2018. The story is okay, all aspects are very good. This is highly recommended, suitable for families and especially for Marvel comic lovers. This movie is a love letter to you guys, and I think, it’s kinda like “thank you” for the fans too for supporting Spider-Man series, both in Sony or Marvel Studios, after all these years. So, I think it’s sweet.
