Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the rare films ever made in Hollywood. Why is it rare? Because Sonic The Hedgehog managed to meet the expectations of gamers and movie lovers alike. Although the actual film adaptation of this game is far from “wow”, but everyone can enjoy Sonic The Hedgehog in its entirety without exception.

Maybe this is the effect of Jim Carrey, or indeed the material is well done. Whatever the reason, everyone behind the Sonic The Hedgehog project is back to work on the sequel.

Unmitigated, this time SEGA brought Tails and Knuckles to the big screen at once. Will this film repeat its success? We see the review below.

1. Synopsis of Sonic The Hedgehog 2: The heroes Earth needs

The story of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 continues sometime after the first film ended. Sonic (Ben Schwartz) ends up living in the Wachowski family home and is considered their own child.

Sonic finally found family and friends in Green Hill, but Sonic always believed that he had a special destiny. He was born to do more than just find a family on Earth. For that he continues to look for ways to use his power to quell evil.

Sometimes Sonic does night patrols to prevent crime like a vigilante . This activity is known by Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), who happens to be Sonic’s father and best friend.

It’s not that Tom doesn’t like Sonic’s decision to become a vigilante. But he believes that Sonic was prepared for a big moment and right now Sonic is not ready for it. Let the moment come to him, no need to search for it like Sonic is currently doing.

Meanwhile on the other hand we see the efforts of Dr. Eggman (Jim Carrey) escapes from the Mushroom planet he is in exile. In an experiment to send signals to other planets, Dr. Eggman finds people who can open portals like Sonic. From within the portal appears Knuckles (Idris Elba) who is looking for the origin of the signal strength sent by Dr. Eggman.

2. Successful game adaptation
Sonic animation this time is made as bright as possible, with the lightest possible plot. The goal, of course, is to make the film family and child friendly. The bright colors also make it easier to combine the CGI side with the real world, so Sonic and his friends appear to be one with their environment.

Jeff Fowler is again entrusted to direct this film, using all the material that Sonic has very well. Although there are some things that have undergone adjustments, these adjustments are still acceptable to the fans. Even children who are new to Sonic can easily consume the story of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 .

The only thing that bothers me comes from some parts of the comedy which are a bit westernized. So that some of his jokes seem foreign to people who are not familiar with western culture.

Jim Carrey was as stunning as ever, so there’s not much to criticize about the way Jim Carrey brought Dr. Eggman. Besides that, Idris Elba also voices Knuckles very well, but for some reason we even remember Bautista’s role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy . Until we feel Knuckles and Drax are the same character.

3. Conclusion?
For gamers who grew up with Sonic, this film is a complement to the previous film which was quite successful in introducing Sonic to the big screen. For those of you who don’t know Sonic, maybe now is the right time to get acquainted with this adorable blue hedgehog.

This film is clearly far from serious. If you’re expecting a deep or complex plot, you’d better stay away from Sonic The Hedgehog 2 . But if you are looking for a film that emphasizes beautiful animation with hilarious dialogues typical of Sonic, you can watch this film and enjoy it.

We can reward Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with a value of 4 out of 5 stars review. A game adaptation film that is difficult for the general audience to accept, but will be liked by gamers who passed their childhood with the Mega Drive console or Master System made by SEGA.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 will be shown in Indonesian cinemas on April 6, 2022. Currently, health protocols have been relaxed, but it’s a good idea to keep wearing a mask, especially when watching movies in theaters.
