James Bond is the most historic spy-themed film in the Hollywood film industry. Began to be appointed to the big screen since 1962, James Bond became the mecca and inspiration for the birth of films with the same theme. Luxurious suits, weapons and sophisticated cars to thrilling actions become a dish that really attracts the audience’s interest.

Since then, there have been many films that have made spy agents the focus of the story. But these five films are considered the best of all time besides the popular James Bond.

1. Munich (2005) – 7,5
Munich is one of the lowest-grossing films of Steven Spielberg’s directorial career, but it shouldn’t be because it’s an excellent spy thriller. The film is set around the world as a group of volunteers band together to kill 11 men suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack.

Their lack of experience as spies caused great doubt and concern. It becomes interesting to watch because the main characters are usually very sure of themselves.

Apart from James Bond, this became a classic spy film that was very popular in its era. The film focuses on a British agent, Alec Leamas (Richard Burton), who tries to plant disinformation on the enemy side, namely the East German camp about one of their officers.

For this mission he had even refused to join the Cold War mission. Not only that, this mission is also his last mission as an agent, but it will be the most complex.

3. The Man From U.N.C.L.E (2015) – 7,3
The film is set in the 1960s and brings together two agents from two hostile countries, America and Russia, who must work together to fight a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to develop nuclear weapons.

It’s a very classic spy style story, but done with beautiful cinematography and really fun shooting action.

4. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) – 7,1
This is a more realistic spy film set in the Cold War. Here, Gary Oldman plays a great old spy who is forced to come out of retirement to uncover the dark spy inside the British Intelligence Service, MI6 who has been sent by the Soviet Union.

Different from others, which are filled with lots of action and shooting, this film puts more emphasis on solving complex and tense mysteries and puzzles. This film also stars many top actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy.

5. Bridge Of Spies (2015) -7,6
This film may not be as cool as James Bond, but it is much more realistic about the life of a spy. The film focuses on the prisoner exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War era.

James Donovan (Tom Hanks), an American lawyer who is recruited to defend a Soviet spy who was arrested in court, and later helps the CIA facilitate a spy swap for the pilot of the captured Soviet U2 spy plane, Francis Gary Powers.

The film by Steven Spielberg itself successfully brought home an Oscar for Best Main Supporting Actor for Mark Rylance.

6. Enemy Of The State (1998) – 7,3
This film stars Will Smith who plays agent Robert Dean who is given a secret disc containing information about a group of corrupt NSA agents who plan to kill a major United States politician.

The film features a lot of action and intrigue full of secrets as well as a hidden agenda, which makes it the perfect spy thriller.

Those are the six coolest spy-themed films with the most exciting story plots that are no less extraordinary than James Bond. The series of films is more interesting by starring experienced Hollywood top actors. It’s a must on your watch list.
