Thor: Love and Thunder will air in Indonesia on Wednesday (6/7/2022). This news was announced on the Marvel Indonesia Instagram account since the end of last June. Here are 7 Marvel movies that you should watch again so that tomorrow in theaters you won’t be confused by the storyline.
On the IMDb page, the synopsis of Thor: Love and Thunder is only mentioned in one solid sentence, namely ‘Thor has the help of Valkyrie, Korg, and his ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct’. Who are they?

According to Cooper Hood in his article on Screenrant , Thor: Love and Thunder is not connected to Marvel Studios’ rapidly building multiverse storyline. In fact, this film has the potential to be the beginning of the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) cosmic story, which will include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and The Marvels.

So this fourth Thor film plays an important role in preparing what other films will appear, especially around Guardians of the Galaxy.

So, for those who have watched the previous Thor films, don’t be fooled. Because the film, directed by Taika Waititi, is not just a continuation of Chris Hemsworth’s journey as Thor in his three predecessor films. Here’s a list of 7 films that compile Thor’s adventures.

1. Thor (2011)
The film, which features Chris Hemsworth’s debut as the God of Thunder, begins when Thor will be crowned King of Asgard. The film, directed by Kenneth Branagh, tells the story of Thor’s expulsion from Earth and his failure to get Mjolnir, the hammer of the God of Thunder.

By re-watching this first Thor film, you will get to know other characters who accompany Thor’s adventures, such as Odin (his father), Frigga (his mother), Loki (his adopted brother), Heimdall (his best friend), Jane Foster (his girlfriend), and one cameo, Hawkeye, that decides Thor’s future.

2. The Avengers (2012)
The film, directed by Joss Whedon, brings Thor to a wider universe. In this film, Thor returns to Earth after Loki attacks the human planet. Thor is not a lone fighter, he is part of a team of superheroes. Among them, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

In The Avengers, Thor and Hawkeye first interact. Thor played a major role in stopping Loki’s invasion of Earth. He is tasked with returning Loki, his evil brother, to Asgard to pay for his actions.

3. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
This film, directed by Alan Tylor, focuses a lot on Thor’s efforts to stop Malekith and the Dark Elf. This film also strengthens Loki and Thor’s brotherly bond, including the beginning of Thor’s tragic story due to the death of Frigga (his mother).

The Dark World also shows the development of Thor’s romantic relationship with Jane Foster. This second Thor film is also important to know the story of Jane Foster before becoming Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
This James Gunn-directed film is the first to feature Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Nebula, and Kraglin. They will return to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Guardians of the Galaxy is worth seeing again as it reminisces about Thanos and the six Infinity Stones, as well as the Celestials, all of which were big concepts that led up to Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth actually also appeared in the film Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). But this film can be skipped and headed straight for the third Thor film.

5. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
The early minutes of this film show the story of Thor looking for the Immortal Stone and Thor’s breakup with Jane Foster. What’s interesting, this film, directed by Taika Waititi, seems to reset the character of Thor in a new comedy nuance.

This film is the start of a new Thor, when Odin dies, Warriors Three dies, Mjolnir’s hammer is destroyed, Thor loses an eye, and Asgard is destroyed when he teams up with the Hulk and Loki to defeat Hela.

Thor: Ragnarok is also the debut for Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who will appear again with Korg and Meik in Thor: Love and Thunder.

6. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
In this film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Thor’s journey expands widely. In this film, Thor watches Thanos slaughter half of the remaining Asgardians, break Loki’s neck, and kill Heimdall.

Thor then continues to work with Rocket and Groot after meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy and creating a new weapon to kill Thanos. The mission took Thor to Nidavellir and made Stormbreaker with Eitri.

Thor the God of Thunder has finally returned to earth to play a major role in the Battle of Wakanda. Thor also nearly killed Thanos who ended up using the Immortal Stone to wipe out half of the life in the universe. He is also haunted by his decision not to aim for the Mad Titan’s head.

7. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
After failing to kill Thanos, Thor was depressed. He became fat and doubted his ability as a superhero. The film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, follows Thor’s journey in revealing his true identity, including talking to his mother again. Thor also learns again that he is still worthy of Mjolnir’s hammer.

Long story short, Thor finally helps fight Thanos in Avengers Compound (a new Avengers facility) and defeats the Mad Titan. The ending of Avengers: Endgame is very important for understanding the storyline of Thor: Love and Thunder as well. Namely, when Thor left Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

From that journey, Thor found a new way of thinking about living in peace. He also appointed a Valkyrie, the new King of Asgard, to take his place.
